Mexican-American rally car racing instructor, DYNA GARCIA, yearns to fulfill a lifelong dream of competing in the World Racing Circuit. A thrill-seeker at heart, Dyna’s roles as responsible daughter to her grieving mom, and loyal employee at the garage her father built, take precedence over her ambitions, leaving no room for romance in her fast- paced life.
Following his wife’s losing battle with cancer a few years ago, all NICK JOHNSON wants is to build a life of stability and safety for his 16-year-old daughter, Chloe. When Nick’s sister invites him and Chloe to look after her Seattle houseboat for the summer, Nick reluctantly agrees, planning a quiet seaside vacation during which he can focus on building the career independence he’s always wanted. But Chloe has other plans, and when their borrowed truck breaks down, landing the two in Dyna’s high-speed world, Chloe requests racing lessons to fill her summer. Though it goes against his every instinct, risk-averse Nick can’t say no to a daughter who has already lost so much.
As Chloe dives deeper into her newfound passion for rally car driving, romance buds between Nick and Dyna, and when Dyna needs sponsorship to re-enter the racing circuit, Nick takes her on as client, helping her to define her brand. Without fully recognizing it, the three begin to form a family; as they spend more and more time together, summer’s end looms large, and with it Nick and Chloe’s inevitable return to their life in San Francisco.
The calendar ticks on as the lightning bugs wane, the sun sets earlier, and Dyna is presented with an opportunity to join the World Racing Circuit as a driver, thanks in part to Nick’s support and encouragement. Accepting this offer means traveling the world as Dyna always wanted, but leaving Nick and Chloe suddenly seems impossible. As Dyna’s new prospects collide with big changes at Nick’s San Francisco office, the two are faced with the same question—stay or go? And as they race toward love, Nick will have to determine if he can let go of his safety net to keep pace in Dyna’s world, and Dyna will have to decide if she is as willing to take a chance on love, as she is to take risks in the driver’s seat.
